Being In Touch with Friends

Today, I viewed the photo album of one of my college friends in Facebook. It was like a photo book, where she tells about her feelings regarding her being still single. We haven't seen each other for almost 10 years and it was really nice seeing her again, even only in photographs. Since it was on Facebook and friends can give comments, our other friends started reminiscing. I joined too, although, I was kind of late in my comments. It feels really nice to remember the good times and share those memories with my closest friends! I realized that they really are my closest friends. We've only been together in school for four years but the friendship lives on. Even if we have not seen each other for almost 10 years now and we only get to say hi and chat a little through e-mail, text messages and comments on Facebook, I know that the friendship we all have will forever be there. Oh how I miss them and love them of course!

Friends are like balloons; once you let them go, you might not get them back. Sometimes we get so busy with our own lives and problems that we may not even notice that we've let them fly away. Sometimes we are so caught up in who's right and who's wrong that we forget what's right and wrong.

Fake Friends...Real Friends

I used to believe in the concept of one best friend, and then I started to become a woman.

And then I found out that if you allow your heart to open up, God would show you the best in many friends.

One friend is needed when you're going through things with your man. Another friend is needed when you're going through things with your mom. Another when you want to shop, share, heal, hurt, joke, or just be. One friend will say, 'Let's cry together,' another, 'Let's fight together,' another, 'Let's walk away together.'

One friend will meet your spiritual need, another your shoe fetish, another your love for movies, another will be with you in your season of confusion, another will be your clarifier, another the wind beneath your wings.

But whatever their assignment in your life, on whatever the occasion, on whatever the day, or wherever you need them to meet you with their gym shoes on and hair pulled back, or to hold you back from making a complete fool of yourself, those are your best friends.

It may all be wrapped up in one woman, but for many, it's wrapped up in several...

I made this poem for my friend Iya. We were exchanging e-mails about our thoughts and feelings about not getting pregnant, then I saw a country graphic that shows two women having tea. I thought of naming the graphic as Iya and Me... having tea. It rhymed! So, I was inspired to add another line, and then another, until I was able to make it a poem.
